Meet Destin Wernicke

Recognized by The Diapason as one of the “20 under 30” in church music (2021), Destin Wernicke is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who brings a spark of excitement to music in a wide range of genres and settings. From accompanying choral music on organ to drumming in big bands, Destin has always sought out new musical experiences, embracing the challenges that come along with them. He is the Interim Director of Music at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, where he leads the accomplished volunteer choir and serves as organist in worship services.

Destin’s career has brought him to the semifinal round of the American Guild of Organists National Young Artist Competition (2024), earned him a premiere performance and second prize at the Riverwalk International Organ Composition Competition, and given him the opportunity to record drums and percussion on Lab 2020 with the University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band. Other accomplishments of his include several first and second place prizes in both the graduate and undergraduate divisions of the William C. Hall Pipe Organ Competition in San Antonio (2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023) and solo organ performances across the country in Texas, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Minnesota.

Destin is a graduate of the University of North Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in jazz percussion (2020) and a Graduate Artist Certificate in organ performance (2023). In the spring of 2025, he completed a master’s degree in organ performance at Indiana University, where he studied with Dr. Janette Fishell.

When he isn’t making music, Destin enjoys spending time with his wife, Victoria, and their dog, Poppy.
