Christopher Brauckmann has been Professor of Conducting at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 2022, where he teaches choral and orchestral conducting and leads the university choir.
As Cantor of St. Peter and Paul Provost Church in Bochum since 2019, he has overseen an extensive program of worship and concerts, initiated the restoration of the large Breil organ, and founded the Chamber Choir. Highlights include performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem, and Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle.
Since 2016, he has served as Artistic Director of the Bach Choir Hagen, expanding its repertoire from the Renaissance to world premieres of contemporary works. The ensemble’s 2025 recording Transformed Night, featuring works by German composer Michael Schultheis, received widespread acclaim throughout Germany. For twelve years he also served as Assistant Conductor of the renowned Cologne Men’s Choir, leading its celebrated Divertissementchen at the Cologne Opera as Musical Director from 2018 to 2023.
Christopher Brauckmann studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance under Cologne Cathedral Organist Winfried Bönig, Johannes Geffert, and Thierry Mechler, with additional conducting studies under Gernot Sahler and Bernhard Steiner. He is a scholar of the Cusanuswerk, the German catholic bishops’ foundation for academic excellence.
